The rules of the road.

1. What this is

theFirstKM is a personal logbook for your journeys: walk one kilometre in as many countries as you can, log it, keep the memory. It's a non-commercial community project run by one person in British Columbia, Canada. No ads, no sponsors, no selling your data — that's permanent, not a promotion.

2. Your account

• You must be 13 or older. We ask your birth month and year at signup; members under 18 have their pins kept private by default.
• One account per person. Keep your password to yourself — your logbook is only as safe as it is.
• Your email is used only for recovery. No newsletters you didn't ask for.

3. Your content

Your pins, notes and photos are yours. You grant us only the permission needed to store them and show them back to you (and to other members, if you choose to share a pin). We never use your content for advertising or sell it to anyone. Delete anything, any time — real deletion, not an archive.

4. The challenge

The First KM Challenge runs on honesty. Log kilometres you actually walked (or rolled — wheelchairs, strollers and bare feet all count). Leave each place better: one piece of trash, one small kindness. Nominate three people by name. There are no prizes and no leaderboard worth cheating for — the logbook is the reward.

5. The community rules

• No spam, no advertising, no commercial pins. This is a logbook, not a billboard.
• Nothing illegal, hateful, or invasive of anyone else's privacy.
• Don't pin someone else's home or a place that endangers anyone.
• Shared pins that break these rules get removed. Accounts that keep breaking them get closed.

6. The guide content

Stays, eats and road information in the editions are researched in good faith and marked honestly ("verified" means we checked it ourselves, recently). Things change — hours shift, roadhouses close. Call ahead. We're a guide, not a guarantee.

7. The fine print, plainly

The service is provided as-is, with care but without warranty. We're not liable for losses arising from use of the site, to the extent the law allows. These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada. If any clause is found unenforceable, the rest stand.

8. Changes

Changes get dated below and announced on the site. Continuing to use theFirstKM after a change means you accept the new terms.
